Simon and Dick Watson's Daoyin Seminar was held on Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th of February 2011.
On the Saturday morning Simon went through the Daoyin Baojian Gong set. As the group was mostly made up of experienced practitioners Simon was able to concentrate on some of the deeper aspects of the exercise, taking up and extending the themes of Mark Atkinsons recent seminars. These themes included the mental relaxation and focus required to practice Daoyin Yangsheng Gong properly, the physical extension the movements needed to stimulate the points around the wrists and ankles and the proper way to breathe in the exercises.
In the afternoon the subject was the Shuxin Pingxue Gong. Although Simon spent more time on the details of the movements in this set he also continued to develop the deeper topics of the morning.
On Sunday morning Richard spent an hour taking us through some exercises in meditation and a discussion of how these skills need to be applied to Daoyin practice.
Then Simon continued with the Daoyin Yang Xue Bu Qi Yi Shou Gong ("5 minute" exercise). This further developed the themes of concentration, meditation and mental focus as well as the physical extension and stimulation of the meridians.
In the afternoon Simon took us through the Liu Zi Jue (six healing sounds) and Professor Zhang's researches on the subject. Some Qigong systems have sets specifically for the healing sounds but in Daoyin Yangsheng Gong the sounds can be incorporated into all the exercises and we have instructions from Professor Zhang on which sound should be employed where in most of the second series sets.
To finish the session Simon introduced us to the exercise for regulating the breathing and we all practiced the 12 meridian form and the 12 movements Daoyin form.
Simon gave us an excellent weekend and was very pleased to have survived giving his first English Daoyin Yangsheng Gong Asoociation Seminar.

This year Datong City, Shanxi Province will be holding its first competition for Professor Zhang's system. There will be competitions in 23 Daoyin Yangsheng Gong sets and Taiji Zhang forms and and introductory class in Professor Zhang's new Nine Movement set.
The events will take place between the 12th and 14th of August 2011. Entries from groups and individuals from around the world will be welcomed by the 15th of June.
Datong looks like an interesting place to visit as well. It has many historic temples grottoes and other sites befitting its twenty two century history on the trade route between China and Inner Mongolia. It is located 250km west of Beijing in the very north of Shanxi Province.
